Thursday, February 24, 2022 – As President Uhuru Kenyatta officially launched campaigns in support of ODM leader Raila Odinga’s State House bid at the Sagana State Lodge yesterday, details of their power-sharing deal have leaked.
Speaking to the media, insiders in Azimio La Umoja Movement have revealed how Uhuru and Odinga will share power in the government.
They intimated that the former Prime Minister will be the coalition’s president as well as its presidential candidate in the August 9, 2022 poll.
Uhuru will take up the position of Chair of Azimio, in a move to ensure that he has an active role in Raila Odinga’s government.
In the proposed lineup, the outgoing Commander in Chief will have four deputies, which will be selected from the Coast, Western, North Eastern and either the Nairobi or Ukambani region
Also forming the secretariat is a Secretary-General, who will be selected from Raila Odinga’s Nyanza backyard or the Eastern region.
A politician from the Rift Valley will serve as the coalition’s Executive Secretary.
While the provisional line-up seeks to be inclusive with representatives from all regions, selecting leaders from the 15 parties that have declared support for the Azimio front poses a challenge to Uhuru and Raila.
ODM and Jubilee are set to hold their National Delegates Congress (NDCs) concurrently on February 26.
