Wednesday, February 23, 2022 – Nyeri Town Member of Parliament, Ngunjiri Wambugu, has shared his thoughts on the power play between President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto.
Speaking during an interview yesterday, Ngunjiri opined that Uhuru has outsmarted Ruto in 2022 succession politics.
According to Ngunjiri, the biggest mistake Ruto made was underestimating the influence Uhuru has in Kenyan politics and assuming that the president would not openly campaign and support a candidate of his choice.
He noted that Ruto did not anticipate the Head of State to be an active political player before the August 9 polls, an opportunity Uhuru seized and capitalized on.
“The Deputy President was of the opinion that the President would not be a player in his succession.
“He assumed that Uhuru would not meet the people to chart the way forward.”
“Uhuru’s choice to join campaigns is one thing Ruto never anticipated. The mountain (Mt Kenya region) will shift for we will listen to him,” stated the Nyeri Town legislator.
This comes even as Uhuru is holding a politically charged meeting at Sagana State Lodge that will culminate into the official launch of his campaigns for ODM Leader Raila Odinga whom he sees as the best man to succeed him when he retires in August.
