Sad Indeed:Kenyan music group ELANI Mourns:Their message will leave you in tears(look)

Monday, January 18, 2016 -   Following the deadly attack by the heinous Al Shabaab terror group on a KDF Camp in Somali that left an unknown number of Kenyan soldiers dead, Kenyan music group Elani has written a heartfelt condolence message to the family, friends and countrymen of the fallen heroes.

Through a post titled, Honouring Our Kenyan Heroes, the music group disclosed that they were saddened by the huge loss of lives that resulted from the attack.

The group was also quick to lay praises on Kenyan soldiers, who have and still are at the battle field, describing their actions to put their lives on the line to defend and protect Kenyans as the “epitome of public service”.

HONOURING OUR KENYAN HEROES.

In light of the attacks on our Defence Forces on Friday 15th January 2016, this is a moment for us all to look past our sectorial issues to the bigger picture. This moment calls for us to stand up in awe as we consider the breathtaking wonder that is the humility and the sacrifice we have just witnessed from our military. We must stand up and allow our hearts and our minds to be amazed by this new standard of public service that we have just seen and heard about our soldiers, from 63 Kenyans who have just given their utmost for Kenya.
We have listened with shock to the news about our sixty three brothers and sisters who have died in Somalia. It is not a cliché to say that they have died in the service of the country. They have literally died for us, their work as Kenyans being to protect you and me from the very thing they have paid the ultimate price for.
It is therefore our heartfelt belief that these are the ultimate public servants.
For the past few months, we as Elani have been contemplating what true public service really is, culminating in what we have spoken out about in the past few days. All our perceptions about that however pale in significance and consideration when we see what the KDF63 and others before them have done. In our minds, they have raised for Kenya the standard, the bar, the SI Unit of what public service really is. They have willingly given their lives to serve you and me. They are the epitome of public service. They have shown us that what we thought could only be ideal is realistic for us as Kenyans.
Today we choose to honour the unbelievable sacrifice of those 63 Kenyans. We salute them. We salute all those who have died in Somalia and in Kenya defending, supporting and protecting our rights and we salute our armed and disciplined forces.
God bless, comfort and keep all those who have been injured and all those who are in mourning for their loved ones. Our prayers and thoughts will continually be with you. For those who are mourning, we thank you for allowing your loved ones to do what they have for us. And we thank you that from them, we as a country are learning what truly serving the public entails. We are mourning and lamenting with you for your loss. We are also at the same time rejoicing and thanking God for their lives.
Sometimes Kenyans say that they struggle to find heroes and heroines in the country. We want to let you know that through the sacrifices of your loved ones on 15th January 2016, we have found our newest heroes and heroines. Their humility and their willingness to work for and with all Kenyans at whatever cost is a great lesson to us as Kenyans and we will emulate them. We as Elani promise you that, as God will enable us, in everything we do as Kenyans, for others and for ourselves, we will always have in our minds our fallen brothers and sisters.
We will never forget their sacrifice.
We also want to let our Defence Forces and each and every Kenyan serving within them know that we honour you and that we appreciate your sacrifices for us. From your midst and ranks, we are learning painfully but encouragingly the answers not only to the question ‘who and what is a Kenyan?’ but also ‘who and what should a Kenyan be?’ We promise to fight where we can for the justice and peace of all.
God bless you, God bless us all and God bless Kenya. In the Name of Jesus we pray. Amen.
Lamentation 3: 32 (TLV)
For though He has allowed grief, yet He will have compassion according to His abundant mercies.
