Friday, January 15, 2016 - Disney has unveiled the first image from The Queen of Katwe, the biographical drama about a Ugandan chess prodigy starring Lupita Nyong’o, David Oyelowo, and newcomer Madina Nalwanga

Directed by Mira Nair and based on Tim Crothers’ book, the film stars Nalwanga as Phiona Mutsei, a young girl from the slums of Kampala who chases her dream of becoming an international chess champion.

Nyong’o plays Phiona’s mother in the film that was largely shot on location in Uganda. 

The actress could not hide her excitement after the first image of the much awaited movie was released, and she took to her social media to celebrate saying:

“Yay! First image released for The Queen of Katwe "
